Daily Show – What Differences Between Bush & Obama? (VIDEO)

Tonight Jon Stewart rightly pointed out that there really are no differences when it comes to philosophy about national security, and he demonstrates it with sequential video clips, comparing Barack’s speech with past Bush speeches. I can’t tell the difference myself, and I thought as much as I watched B. Hussein Obama’s speech today.

Change? That’s what the dumb masses voted for, but they will just get more of the same, if Barack holds true to what he said in his speech today. It will be realized to be, after all, politics as usual. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Its probably simpler than that... Bush said all these things in the past because he had all the inside info. Everyone blasts his decisions, the big O gets into office, gets all those top secret briefs, and relizes "Crap, my ideas won't work. His ideas sucked much less than mine"
  • VoteRonPaul
See, ya dummies, you should have supported Ron Paul.

    DUH!
  • Andy Andretta
Obama is absolutely NOTHING buy rhetoric. The man has No ideas, other than whatever he thinks he should say to woo the masses. He's a sham, a phoney, and a very slick race baiter who deals in class envy and straight out lies.

Read any history books lately? Hitler ran for the German Legislature and was elected following his release from Landsburg Prison in 1925. Once the Great Depression sank the German economy as well as the rest of the western world, the Nazis gained ever increasing support in the German Reichstag until, on January 30, 1933, Hitler, as leader of the majority party (the Nazis) was appointed Chancellor of Germany by its President, Paul Von Hindenburg

ALL OF THE ABOVE IS TRUE. THERE IS ONE THING THAT WAS NOT MENTIONED---OBAMA IS A MUSLIM- I DON'T CARE HOW MANY CHURCHS HE ATTENDS. WON'T BE LONG BEFORE HE WILL SPREAD A RUG IN THE OVAL OFFICE AND" PRAY TO ALLA" 5 TIMES A DAY

I laugh at all the people who voted for this fake! There will be no change! Politics as usual. Remember Obama is from Chicago Illinois. You know, Illinois the state of the festering corruption from the Mayor to the Governor's Office! Now it will be to the President's Office with Daley pulling the strings! Don't believe me, watch! Listen, This melee mouth guy who IS NOT even from our Country, nor has NEVER served to PROTECT the United States. ALL the Cornies he has around him are from the Daley Machine of Chicago! You, know all the friends who are being indicated for stealing. Watch your taxes go up! He is already giving to the rich and taking from the poor! The speaker of the House is another political moron. Pelosi wants $1 million for condoms for California schools. Your Obama is allowing pork in! He is pushing for this "stimulus?" package. Another change that stays the same! Obama, you people are such fools!
  • steve bourg
JStewart's funny enough to know how to paste the stmts together and reel off a great piece. I agree completely. Hilarious skit. But he's not smart enough to know that Obama (& speechwriter Favreau) are just pasting the words in Obama's speech to make him sound like a serious Commander-in-Chief. At the time, Tuesday, it could be a comforting bit of strength. But it was just "words". Obama's actions Wed, signing stmt intentions to release Gitmo prisoners of war to 'trials' was just insane. Our country has never given legal courtroom rights to prisoners of war. Let's see how this plays out. It's not a good start. In fact it's a horrendous start, and contradicts the "words".

obama's victory, indeed his high powred candidacy is a momument to American stupidity.I haven't encountered ONE person who has given me ONE reason as to why he's qualified to be ward attendant much less president; Oh!
I almost forgot the imbecile who said 'pro-choice'
    Huh??????
every other idiot has simply expressed the 'change' mantra.

Good Point. We give a junior senator the keys to the greatest nation in the world. This is comperable to making a well spoken 24 year old straight outta college the CEO of Apple or Microsoft. Just does not make sense.

I know that it's" All Politics" ... but all we can do is give our new president our prayers and support ... at the risk of using a over used phase ... " ... we're all in the same boat " I only hope that we're all rowing in the same direction! That's what our Commander - in - Chief is suppose to do ... give us direction.

  • DaveBuck
I've been using this skit as an example of how people just wrote off anything Bush said.

However, that same logic now applies to people who didn't vote for Obama (like myself). The right thing to do is review his statements and admit to the ones we agree with and debate those that we disagree with.

The vast bulk of Obama's speech was right on and well said.
  • LT

JON STEWART IS A COMEDIAN....SATIRE HEARD OF IT? JEEZ...DO SOME OF YOU REALLY GET YOUR NEWS THERE
  • You don't have to shout, Car... Yes, we realize Jon Stewart is satire; that's the beauty of it. He's using satire to point out the insanity of his own party. And, no, I personally do not get my news from The Daily Show. I do, however, get the occasional comedic bit when it appropriately points out the blind hypocrisy on the left.
  • Russellkirkconservative
As the father of two 20-somethings, I have the opportunity to chat with them and their friends, and I can state that there are in fact a dismaying number of young people who do get a lot of their "news" from Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. God help us.

what really is the plan of conservatives to regain voters for the upcoming elections? the senate elections in 2010 are going to add to the dems total in the senate. do you realize that the dems didn't lose one incumbent seat in the house or senate in the 2006/2008 elections? are you seeing the future of the country accurately? is your only "hope" that the dems screw it up? is that the best you have got? if so, you are handing obama a second term.

did you not learn anything by watching the dems and their 50 state plan? it worked perfectly. they forced the republicans to spend money in states they used to win easily.

are you hoping to regain people to your side by name calling?

i see plenty of name calling and finger pointing, but what are your plans to get voters back to voting republican at the national level or state level? people in the middle are fleeing your party and your ideals.

do you people not see it?

obama represents a change and you may see it as a negative but obviously most of the country does not. he isn't getting in front of you with a smirk telling you everything you are witnessing is wrong, he isn't telling you the economy is strong, he isn't saying "so" when told that his approval ratings are in the teens, he is teaching people that education is a good thing and that caring about the environment is a good thing.

cling to your guns and religion. the national republican party has become as politically impotent as any party in the history of this country. it has been a slow steady decline, you haven't been able to use your brains to come up with anything that will turn the tide back to your favor.

so back to my original point, aside from clinging to your guns and religion, what are you planning to do to get voters back to your party?
  • DGinAZ
Yes, and his "follerers" at his inauguration obviously don't share the same sentiment about the environment, or the country...not only did they refuse to use trash cans, but they left thousands of American Flags on the ground as well.

Apparently, Obama's words are just rhetoric; and that is not "name calling" to point out the hypocrisy. Good luck to all of the lemmings following this guy, as he contributes to abortion on demand, and the release of enemy combatants into our society.
  • vdodson
When Obama passes the Freedom of Choice Act (as he has promised Planned Parenthood) hundreds and thousands of babies (many who are African American and Hispanic) will die and the blood of these innocent human beings will be on the hands of Obama and ANYONE who voted for him! Infanticide ! More have died from abortion than from the Holocaust and the evil slave trade. President Bush stood up for what was honorable and good. He may of made some mistakes like we all have but I believe history will be show him in a much more honorable way than the ignorant and pathetic and dishonest media and if history does not then when he stands before God it will be known. You could not pay me to become a Democrat. Why does being a liberal left become a good thing? Where are all of the Democrats that should be standing up for what is morally and ethically right!? I do not cling to a gun or a religion but to a relationship with my Great Creator. John 3:16

Oh, and one more thing, the out of power party has every single time but once in the last century picked up seats in the first mid-term election. Now that Obama has finally stopped campaigning for the first time in a decade and finally has to govern and make actual decisions, he will inevitably start dissappointing people. Not you, obviously since you have a sort of unhealthy, religious attachment to him. But the promises he's already breaking and the strong possiblity that he won't be able to get us out of this recession as fast as he's promised or if their is another terrorist attack, this time on his watch, his approval will inevitably go down. He's just a man. He's just another politician. Stop trying to attach supernatural attributes to him. He's just another politician who happens to be a good speech-reader. That's all he is...
  • jeff
Didn't name-calling work for Democrats with their daily, relentless attacks against Bush for 8 straight years? Oh, and socialism doesn't work so yes, he will fail...
  • Jones is right. Obama doesn't really mean it. He fought as desperately as the rest of the Democrats to lose the Iraq war, and his plan now is to unplug liberty here at home, starting with his plans to use the global warming hoax to unplug the power cord of industrial capitalism (energy).

The words are the same, but where Bush actually believed in liberty, Obama does not.
  • Great site MsUnderestimated - I stopped watching the Daily show years ago and was wondering what kind of material he's come up with during the Obama dynasty - this is funny.

Hey Keith - I too have problems keeping 700 enemy combatants locked away at Gitmo - it costs way too much money. We could send them all to Uzbekistan where they could summarily executed and it would cost us maybe a couple million bucks if that.

Just kidding - we're Americans and would never tolerate that. Our leadership takes enemy combatants and treats them so well that many try everything in their power to resist repatriation. If I had five bucks for every Afghan I have met who has asked how he could get to Gitmo so he too could get a high speed artificial limb, or his teeth fixed, or other chronic medical condition treated I'd be rich. The Afghans view on Gitmo is 180 out from the liberal nitwits who harp about individual freedoms or terrorists while actively restricting the constitutional freedoms which make America the envy of the world. Grow up and start thinking for yourself.
  • Mwalimu Daudi
Obama = Bush III? Hardly! Bush worked to win in Iraq - and suceeded. Obama is trying not to lose. Huge difference. In a year the results will be crystal clear.

Q: What does Stewart and a RINO (Republican In Name Only) have in common?
A: Both piss off their base supporters (viewers) while attracting no one from the other side.

  • Dean
So, Mark, let me get this straight:

There were trials going on for those prisoners, and now Obama stopped them.

So there are prisoners being held with NO trails right now, and that's an improvement? The Left constantly bashed Bush for "no trails", and now Obama stops the trails, and that's a GOOD thing? Please!

Quit being on Obamapoligist. Holding people without trail is WRONG.
  • Keith
Dean, the men have been held for nothing. The Dark Side cracks me up when they have no problem with BushCo holding men as prisoners for seven years and no indictments and/or convictions for over 700. If this were you then you'd be screaming like bitches to your government. Correct me if I'm wrong here.

    Uh... seriously?

What the hell is he supposed to say? "Yeah, we're sorry for our way of life, we'll let you attack us and destroy it." "Boy, we really hate that concept of freedom, what a drag."

I don't doubt for a second that in personal convictions, the two men are the same. What IS different is the methods - Bush's reckless go-it-alone my-way-or-the-highway cowboy diplomacy, vs Obama's more multilateral approach.

I hardly think that all of the coalition partners like France, Germany, Great Britain, Austrailia,Canada,Ecuador,UAE,Poland, and several other countrys think we are going it alone.

Wow, they both like children and puppies too! That's not change!!!!! I demand sacrificial killings of children and puppies for Obama to prove he's really changing things.

Did you listed to the quotes? So they both are in favor of freedom. And prosperity and peace. And "the American way of life". Is this surprising to anyone?
  • Tyler
not in the slightest, however they very rightly point out that when obama uses bushes words, nearly verbatim, they are far better recieved. He has said nothing new, nor has he changed anything. He speaks of change, but fails to identify what will change
  • Excellent point, Tyler.
  • mark
i guess only one way of thinking is welcome here.

removing my comment from the chain makes some of the responses hard to follow.

two more changes today: freedom of information requests and doubling the amount of time people can move to lobbyist positions.

    more of the same!

this blog and the comments will end up in an internet museum one day.
  • When did I remove your comment, Mark? The only comment I recall deleting was one that called me a c**t. That will not be allowed.
  • mark
i certainly didn't use that word to describe anyone. but my original comment is missing, which hellpig responds to at 4:35pm.
  • Mark, can you please re-post your comment here? I swear to you I did not delete it. I am not that way. I encourage rigorous debate here, and the only time I will delete comments is when I am called names as described before (bitch is okay, I can handle that). I also will not allow anyone to speak ill of the dead or dying, or denigrate someone with whom I have a great deal of respect and has done nothing to deserve such denigration (e.g. Brit Hume).

    Carry on.

Don't you believe it, MsU. Tony Blair made a show of tearing up the Labour Party's Socialist constitution. His rigtht hand man said, "We are all Thatcherites now". Twelve years on, however, it is indeed "la meme chose" - the same thing that happened in the late Forties, Sixties and Seventies. The problem is, with Labour's destruction of our education system, I doubt we'll be able to produce enough people capable of putting things right.

Freezing $100,000 salaries is meaningless. CUTTING those salaries would have some meaning. Most people would LOVE to have their salaries frozen at over $100k.

And those gitmo trails are on hold for a few months, not halted.
  • mark
obama freezes all white house salaries over $100,000.
he also has halted all club gitmo trials.

yeah, more of the same. the country has left you standing on the pier.

you do realize the 2010 senate elections will boost the dem majority to 65?

whatever you do, please don't change. the unintentionally comedy scale is off the map at a site like this.
  • What do you order in Obama's Restaurant?

    "Oh, just something different."
  • Stewart knows he has to frame this very carefully for his Bush-bashing audience. Nevertheless, he knows BS when he sees it. He also knows he's going to have to find a way to mock Obama, as all comics will. Bush just won't be there for the easy scores anymore. And THAT's change.
  • yamzaktol
    Love it!

I hated Bush domestic policy and loved his foreign policy. Obama is keeping the foreign policy unchanged, and of course he's completely correct about that. This makes me happy and hopefully gives Stewart an ulcer. When it comes to post 9/11 foreign policy, GWB was 100% correct and even Obama knows it.

Meanwhile, Obama is accelerating all of Bush's domestic mistakes, re spending, TARP, etc.

    Good times.
  • Could it be that what President Obama said while campaigning has changed since he's been receiving the same daily threat assessment President Bush had received?
  • mark
has everyone here really not grasped what has happened? you have been relieved of your duties as the leaders of this country. the non-25 percent have taken over. you sit there blaming this and blaming that without any sense of the failure of your views. there is a sense of relief knowing you will never get it.

if you thought the 2006 & 2008 elections were one sided (democrat incumbents lost how many seats? um, none), wait until the 2010 senate elections take place. the 60 seat majority will be just a blur this time.

from 2000-06 bush got 100% of what he wanted.
from 2006-08 bush got 95% of what he wanted.
and look at the state of our country from when clinton left to when bush left.

disaster doesn't begin to describe his presidency:
    9/11
    heckuva job brownie.
    the economy is strong.
    mission accomplished.
the war will pay for itself.

bush and the republican party own this failure- and it is of epic proportions. trying to pass it off on the democrats only convinces the majority of people that you have no sense of shame or responsibility and it has driven them further away.

there are no signs you are grasping what is evident to 75% of the citizens of this country.

if your plan is to wait for the democrats to screw it up (and they will, as have proven they are spineless and pathetic), you are handing obama a second term.

keep stomping your feet and whining, it changes nothing.

obama derangement syndrome is hysterically funny.
now that america has been taken back, why do you hate america?

also, republicans never have been and never will be funny.
  • kdizzydaze
Don't let this garbage fool you. Stewart's a liberal douche and this shit was so obvious that he had to point it out (even if the MSN is still too pussified to handle it).
Hey, he has his own show - he has quite a bit of money and he lives in NYC. Good for him.

Other than that, I'll flip to HGTV or Food Network for something actually entertaining.
  • How long before Jon Stewart is summoned to the Hopechange Reeducation Camps (patent pending?)
  • I'm not a big Obama supporter but what was Stewart thinking Obama should say? "We are sorry we are powerful, and love our freedoms." I believe Obama's all rhetoric but Stewart is just plain anti-America and anti-religion. Our country was founded on Judeo-christian values. Sorry John.

That's why those that were objective during the campaign recognized that the choices were (ironically) between Bush III (Obama) -- despite his rhetoric to the contrary -- and Clinton III (McCain). The cult crying for change actually voted for more of the same -- Bush and the Dem Congress since Nov. '06. What they really meant is that we want a Black guy as president regardless of qualifications, experience, or policies.
