Checking In

Hey, everyone. Sorry for the lack of posting lately, but as I’ve previously stated, I’m having lots of problems with Windows Movie Maker. In fact, so much so that I gave up and finally just did a full re-install of XP Saturday. I’ve spent all weekend trying to get all my programs installed back and my files copied, only to find out that somehow the XP re-install did not recognize my sound device. So, Movie Maker is trying to run, but it says I have no sound device driver. Damnit! And when I go to the “Sound” panel, it says I HAVE no sound device installed. I’m about ready to throw my PC against the wall and go get a Mac. In addition to all that madness, guess who I’ve been having to deal with for support on my PC? Dell. UGH! Honest to God I’d rather have a root canal than deal with those idiots. I’ll never buy another Dell again.

In the meantime, my absence will continue for a while longer while I try to get this mess figured out.

Regards,
Ms.U

glad you are back in action

Gotta get a MAC if you want to be dealing with serious movie management with less than chronic throbbing headaches... Less hassles, plenty of horsepower, consistently best rating for customer service/support.

Once you go MAC, you dont go Back (to Windows)
  • As per winning the war..... my husband worked under Petraeus and is now in the office with GEN Caldwell, whom you might remember was in Iraq for a year or so as MNF-I spokesman. He's taken Petraeus' place.

My hubby is active duty Army and an OIF vet. He works particularly in the realm described here: Islamic terrorism. A brief overview:

We are slowly winning the GWOT. The terrorism we see is not Muslim, it is "terror veiled in the cloak of Islam" as PM Nouri al-Maliki said in 2006. Al-Qaeda and insurgents are no more Muslims than David Koresh was Christian. They are apostates and heretics. The Muslim world is finally standing up against it in larger numbers denouncing the terrorism as such. They are, after all, targets by the nutcase extremists along with the West or anyone else who doesn't agree with them.
  • I like Dell in that their support is free, but 3/4 of the time I cannot understand the customer service... apparently they hire a LOT of Korean women to man the phones.

Microsoft is worse. We have a similar problem going on with our upstairs computer and had to reinstall the whole thing and are missing drivers. We cannot reinstall Microsoft Office because of their pirating technology so they say we've downloaded the software twice already. Customer service is $50 an e-mail or $50 a phone call to Microsoft! What a gip!

I hate computer problems. I suggest a Mac next time.

Typical lib, always missing the point intentionally. This seems to be SOP when libs discuss a topic. Let me kindly direct you back to the point they are making with their counter. So many people claim that Islam is a religion of peace. The number of attacks show otherwise. That's the only point they are making and it's apparently one you can't answer since you have to bluster on ignorantly about other topics.

Why don't you write some posts instead? The Great News in Iraq is never covered by the right wing blogosphere anymore. I'm not sure why since conservatives were so pissed off a couple of years ago about the failure of the liberal media to cover the good Iraq news. Maybe you could tell us about all the great stuff that has been happening there since you seem very tuned into the War on Terror?

I was also wondering if you could explain the Religion of Peace Islamic terrorist attack counter on your website. Seen in isolation, the number of attacks (9023) since 9/11 sounds really high. I wonder how many attacks there were in the 6 years preceding 9/11? I didn't see it at their site but think that would give us a good understanding of what is happening with Islamic terrorism. Namely, is there more or less?

The reason I ask is because logically, if we're 'winning' the war on Islamic Terrorists, the number of attacks would be declining after the US spent at least $500 billion & gave the Islamic terrorists 5 years of Shock and Awe. A war would be considered a failure by normal people if the # of attacks continued escalating, right? Or is that somehow a success?

If you could enlighten us, it would be appreciated.

right click on my computer, select the hardware tab, click on the device manager button (you can get there by going through systems in the control panel too).

check on the sound, video and game controls list and see if your audio card is functioning, it might have a check through it. find the name of the audion device then google drivers for that device. otherwise e-mail me and I can find it on the Dell site for you.

If it makes you feel any better Dell has been buying and installing cheaper parts (by their own admission). So it's likely not your fault but honestly this should be no big deal to manage.

Also please download and try Adobe Premier for video. Rock solid stable.

I have been suffering identical difficulties.
I an using XP on a notebook and it would not recognize my sound card even though it said the driver was there.

I solved the problem by going to the gateway website, and downloading the original audio driver for my gateway computer model, reinstalled the driver and it now works great.

    Hope this helps!
