Teddy *Hic* Kennedy’s Reply to a Constituent on Immigration - **WARNING - DISTURBING IMAGES**

Somebody alert Green Peace…. we’ve got a beached whale here! Oh, wait… never mind. That’s just Unca Teddy manning the crossing down at the Rio Grande so he can register them to vote as they cross. Teddy at the river?
Somebody quick! Build a bridge and put Teddy in a car on the messican side! Then he can give them all RIDES over here!.

A friend of mine wrote Teddy “The Swimmer” Kennedy about his views on illegal immigration, and much like the rest of us, he received the standard “form” letter in return. However, unlike most of the conservatives I wrote who spoke of support for strong enforcement of current laws (although their inaction does not speak the same), Teddy offers no apologies for his views (well, would we have expected him to, since he never was held to account for the events at Chappaquiddick?). I guess he would know something about somebody trying to survive in a body of water - just not the Rio Grande. KennedyMainstream.jpg

Here’s the letter to my friend:

Dear Mr. Davis:

Thank you for contacting me concerning the ongoing debate over immigration reform. This is a complex issue, with many concerns, and it requires a comprehensive solution. 12 million undocumented workers are currently living in the United States, working, paying taxes, and raising children who are U.S. citizens. These undocumented immigrants contribute to our economy, and it is long past time to provide legal avenues to bring them out from the shadows.

Border enforcement has increased dramatically from 1990 to 2004. The budget for the Border Patrol has increased from $263 million in 1990 to $1.6 billion today - a six-fold increase. During this period, between 480,000 and 660,000 undocumented immigrants entered the U.S. each year. In all, nearly 9 million have arrived since 1990. Our immigration system is broken, and enforcement alone will not fix it.

We need realistic and comprehensive solutions that will protect our borders, enable temporary workers to enter the country legally, and allow workers already here to earn legal status. I’m proud to be a sponsor, with Senator McCain, of the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act, a comprehensive reform of our nation’s immigration system. Under our proposal undocumented immigrants who wish to become citizens must show they are currently working, pay a $2000 fine, work for an additional six years, pass security checks, pay taxes, learn to speak English, learn about American civics, and get in line behind all other legal immigrants before being eligible for a green card.

Border Security is addressed in the bill. It establishes a National Border Security Strategy, based on “smart” border technology, information sharing, and cooperation with our neighbors. A new temporary visa will be created to allow foreign workers to enter the U.S. The visa will be valid for 3 years, and can be renewed one time for a total of 6 years. Enforcement of current laws will be strengthened, improving fraud detection and allowing random audits of employers to ensure compliance with existing labor laws.

Unnecessary obstacles preventing families from being together when immigrating to the U.S. are also removed. The bill will enable undocumented immigrants to come out of the shadows, submit to background checks, and register for legal status. During this time, they would have to continue working, play by the rules, and pay substantial fines and back taxes. The bill is not an amnesty, which implies that all is forgiven. It is not. Undocumented workers must pay fines and go to the back of the line before earning a chance for citizenship.

By heritage and history, America is a nation of immigrants. Our bill proposes necessary changes in the law while preserving this tradition. These necessary changes will ensure that immigrant families today, as in the past, continue to live the American dream and contribute to our prosperity, our security, and our values.

Again, thank you for writing to me about this important issue.

Sincerely,
Edward M. Kennedy

I’ll Get You and Your Little “Dog,” TOO!

Cynthia “Slugger” McKinney and her pretend bodyguard police officer *cough, cough,* are hopefully about to get their just due respectively. And, it’s about damn time! Just breaking on Channel 2 Action News (WSB TV in Atlanta) this evening, the Capitol Police Officer assaulted by Cynthia McKinney is SERIOUSLY contemplating charges against her! (come on, man.. .GROW some! Daddy McKinney can’t hurt YOU!) And the department is considering “impersonating” charges against her fake-ass bodyguard who was OBVIOUSLY (not allegedly) saying he was a police officer while threatening the WSB reporter that he would put his “ass in jail!”

Here’s the latest… hot off the local news:

WASHINGTON — The top police union official in the U.S. was in Washington today, urging the police officer who was involved in a run-in with Rep. Cynthia McKinney D-Ga. to take legal action against the congresswoman.

McKinney is accused of striking a Capitol Police officer, after the officer failed to recognize her and stopped her at a security checkpoint.

Channel 2 Action News learned exclusively that the president of the largest police union in the U.S. met with the unidentified officer this morning to talk over possible legal action.

“We’re going to make sure the officer won’t be harassed. We want the officer to be able talk to experts, who can look at his legal recourses, if he needed to,” says Chuck Canterbury, national president of the Fraternal Order of Police.

The F.O.P. has more than 320,000 members.

Union officials are also looking into the run-in between one of the congresswoman’s employees and Channel 2 Action News reporter Scott MacFarlane.

They’re looking into the background of the man who claimed on-camera to be a police officer.

The union says he should be prosecuted for impersonating a police officer.

Rep. McKinney’s office says the man is her driver, not a police officer.

“We rail against people who use police authority when they don’t have it,” says Canterbury.

“It’s dangerous for police officers. It’s dangerous for the public. Imitating police is not a good thing,” he added.

Rep. McKinney’s case remains in the hands of the U.S. attorney in Washington.

A grand jury is hearing testimony.

It’s high time that “Crazy” McKinney got her just due. It’s been a long time a-comin’.

Oh, and one more “Separated at Birth” I just could NOT resist!

“Guest-Worker Hopes Spark Rush to Border”

I don’t think this AP article from AZCentral.com needs any explanation.

NOGALES, Mexico - At a shelter overflowing with migrants airing their blistered feet, Francisco Ramirez nursed muscles sore from trekking through the Arizona desert - a trip that failed when his wife did not have the strength to go on.

He said the couple would rest for a few days, then try again, a plan echoed by dozens reclining on rickety bunk beds and carpets tossed on the floor after risking violent bandits and the harsh desert in unsuccessful attempts to get into the United States.

The shelter’s manager, Francisco Loureiro, said he has not seen such a rush of migrants since 1986, when the United States allowed 2.6 million illegal residents to get American citizenship.

This time, the draw is a bill before the U.S. Senate that could legalize some of the 11 million people now illegally in the United States while tightening border security. Migrants are hurrying to cross over in time to qualify for a possible guest-worker program - and before the journey becomes even harder.

“Every time there is talk in the north of legalizing migrants, people get their hopes up, but they don’t realize how hard it will be to cross,” Loureiro said.

South-central Arizona is the busiest migrant-smuggling area, and detentions by the U.S. Border Patrol there are up more than 26 percent this fiscal year - 105,803 since Oct. 1, compared with 78,024 for the same period a year ago. Along the entire border, arrests are up 9 percent.

Maria Valencia, a spokeswoman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, said the rise in detentions did not necessarily mean more people were crossing. She attributed at least some of the additional detentions to an increase in the number of Border Patrol agents.

“We’ve sent more technology and agents there, and I think that’s had an impact,” she said.

But Loureiro, who has managed the shelter for 24 years, said the debate in the U.S. Congress has triggered a surge in migrants. In March, 2,000 migrants stayed at the shelter - 500 more than last year.

Many migrants said they were being encouraged to come now by relatives living in the United States.

One of them is Ramirez, a 30-year-old who earned about $80 a week at a rebar factory in Mexico’s central state of Michoacan.

He spent an entire night walking through the Arizona desert with his wife, Edith Mondragon, 29. When her legs cramped, their guide abandoned them and the couple turned themselves in to U.S. authorities. They were deported.

But they said they would try again when they regained their strength.

“We want to try our luck up there,” Mondragon said. “We can’t go back to Michoacan because there is no future there.”

Ramirez said the draw was not only the prospect of work in Minnesota, where two of his brothers milk cows on a ranch. He was also excited about the idea he might be able to do it legally.

“My brothers said there is plenty of work there, and that it looks like they will start giving (work) permits,” he said.

Many of the migrants also are being driven by a desire to get into the United States before the likelihood that lawmakers further fortify the border.

Can any of you explain to me, PLEASE, why we have not locked down the friggin borders yet? Where are the armed National Guardsmen we need?

I say ORDER ON THE BORDER FIRST!

If you’re Mexican and you’re reading this…. “Si eres ilegal…. SALGATE INMEDIATAMENTE!”
